Kitchen Garden Project

How do you make a crystal garden?
A project for my cub scout son is to make a crystal garden. I’ve heard that it can be done with items from the kitchen.
If I’m not mistaken, you can make crystal gardens using
sugar and warm water. Just dissolve the sugar in water and put it someplace where the water will evaporate. Make sure to attach a string to a pencil and hang it over the opening of the jar. The crystals should start forming within a day or two. Use food coloring to add some color to the crystals. Hope this helps you.
