Depressed bunny, companion died?
Two nights ago one of my rabbits died.
They shared a hutch together in the garden. The weather has been horrific and I had been covering the hutch with a tarpaulin (but so they could breathe and still see daylight through the side) to keep the rain out. However in the night the tarpaulin blew off, and in the morning I found 2 soaking wet bunnies, one alive and one dead.
I’ve now moved the hutch into the kitchen (Hygienic – I know – but I’ve got nowhere else to put it). At first the surviving one seemed to be in good spirits, and was eating well, and seemed to enjoy being indoors where she could watch everyone.
But suddenly she seems very depressed and rejecting her food.
Should I get her a companion or should I just wait to see if picks herself up?
As well as loosing her cage mate she may be suffering from the shock of being soaked and could well have caught a cold.
I suggest you get veterinary help straight away. Once rabbits stop eating they go down hill fast. She may need fluids and a recovery food to boost her energy.
Keep her warm and out of draughts
